KNOWN ANOTHER WAY

Episode 5 had me on the edge of my seat! What about you? At the end of the episode, we saw Mary Magdalene return to the very place Jesus had set her free from. But why would she return there?

At first, as the Roman soldiers appeared on the scene, we saw Mary hides in fear. She allowed herself to be filled with fear and unworthiness. After all, Christ had redeemed her, so she no longer represented that same person she had been. Although she had no reason to fear now, Satan attempted to undermine her status as a Daughter of the King.

It seemed as though (when Mary returned to camp), she allowed the fear and thoughts to circulate in her mind. As the demoniac entered the camp, it immediately recognizes her and called her by her old name, “Lilith”, which Mary immediately corrected and stated that she is no longer called by her old name. She tries to have the man tell his birth name over and over again, but as the demons took control, she seemed to question herself. The demoniac then jumps at her, in which Simon Z rescues her. However, in all that transpires, there seems to be an inner war that Mary is experiencing.

When Christ sets us free, Satan will always return back to his old stomping grounds to see if he can again regain control. This is why the Word of God impresses upon us to take every thought captive.

“We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,” (2 Corinthians 10:5-6)

“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” (Colossians 3:1-2)

When Satan tries to riddle your mind with guilt and condemnation from the past, from the very things that Christ set you free from, do not give it any validity. The Word says, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John. 8:36)

This does not mean that spiritual perfection is required of us BEFORE redemption can transform our very soul… but quite the opposite…

It means that you are free in spite of the sin that has held you hostage… that you are forgiven because of what Jesus did, “For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith—And this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

There is nothing we can do to deserve His forgiveness and His freedom, YET He freely gave it in our darkest hour of need… even when we venture back to places we’ve left behind.
