God often speaks to me in dreams. The other night I had a dream that a Pastor took a young woman on stage to give a demonstration of how God deals with our brokenness. He began by saying: “When men dig a manhole in the ground, they do not leave it uncovered... instead, they cover it. The same way God would never leave you in the same condition He found you.”
I woke up immediately and added this to my cellular notes because I knew God was trying to tell me something, but what? I mean I had an idea but wasn’t sure entirely. I looked up what a manhole was. A manhole or an inspection chamber is a unit constructed underground to provide access to the utilities like a sewer system, drainage system, etc. Therefore, with the help of a manhole, underground utilities are inspected, modified, cleaned, and maintained.
A lightbulb went off! As you just read, a manhole is used to provide access so that inspections, modifications, cleaning, and maintenance can be done. God can and will open up a manhole providing access to your broken heart. It is not to cause you pain but to heal, clean out all the junk and restore you. He would never leave you unprotected as He is doing this. He wants access to your heart so that he can heal you if you let Him in. Did you know that in the Bible there are over 1000 verses that speak about the heart? I would have to say that the heart is pretty important to God.
We see many times in The Chosen, Jesus healing and delivering those who were filled with afflictions. He always addressed their pain and how they felt. He saw their heart. In the Word, it says, “Hear me as I pray, O Lord. Be merciful and answer me! My heart has heard you say, 'Come and talk with me.' And my heart responds, 'Lord, I am coming." (Psalm 27:7-8). This shows us most assuredly that Jesus sees our hearts.
Just like in God’s Word, “Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them all.” (Matthew 21:14) Jesus was always filled with compassion for their suffering and brokenness. He never left them in the same condition he found them. They left changed. God doesn’t want to leave you in your brokenness... He wants to heal and restore you. He has great plans for your life, plans to prosper you and not harm you. He wants to use you so that you can bring others to Him so he can do the same for them. I know it’s hard to surrender it all to Him, it can be downright painful at times. But it won’t last for long. It will be all worth it! Will you allow Him to create a manhole in your heart?
"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." (Psalm 147:3)
"Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise." (Jeremiah 17:14)
